Close to Home

Today, I’m working on a topic I hadn’t worked on for quite some time, tours. This one was really very close for me and somewhat easier to write about rather than the other areas that some people offer for as this was for fun tours in Maui. For those that don’t know, I was actually born and raised in an island close to Maui in a town called Waialua.

I’m kind of disappointed in the clients original site, but it’s all cool I suppose. Not everyone knows how to mess with HTML and such. Especially not where I’m from. It’s nice to see a bit of home come to me here since it’s been well over 2 years since I’ve been back. Aah nostalgia.

A Good Web Design

Today, more and more websites are popping up by the minute. Not all of the websites and web pages are going to be designed good. Let’s face it, not everyone in the web designing field are going to produce good quality websites. It takes awhile, maybe after a hundred websites designed. Yes, I said websites, and not web pages. After about a hundred website builds under your belt that you will probably start to even grasp the idea of a good design for a website. Good websites should consist of a Header with a logo on top, a simple and easy Navigation under the header, a Left column under that with a simple menu (sometimes on the right, depending on the look of the design), clear legible content (no less than 9 pixels font size) almost at the center of the body, a footer, and a little bit of images per page (see http://benefitfrom.net/ and http://woodfloorrefinisher.com/ ). The web page should be between 700-800 pixels wide maximum. Also, it should be automatically centered (left to right of the screen) so that it will be easy to see everything the first time. The reason for this is not everyone is going to have that 20 inch widescreen, but everyone has the ability to scroll down.

Reminds Me of Pepper

Strange enough, I’ve hardly had any MLM’s to deal with today. Although, I am working on one right now (it’s incomplete so far) that’s besides the point. In any case, I dealt with a North Georgia real estate site, and no offense to anyone from Georgia, but none of the areas seemed to have much to them at all. I’m sure the state as a whole does, but the individual towns were hard to draw information from.

Anyways, on a whim, I figured I’d use the background the client was using. It reminds me of pepper and yaknow, strange enough, I keep a little can of pepper with me at near all times just in case I need it. So yah, the look of it isn’t extremely extraordinary, but really, I don’t feel Georgia has anything that really does it for me. Peaches? Nah….

Color and Typography in Good Design

I found an interesting article that talks about typography and background color in design. The article gives examples on what is a good background for type and what would be a bad background for your type. So I thought it would be interesting to go through the sites that I have done to see if I was using bad backgrounds. Ok, so I am not going to show you the bad ones but I am going to show you a good one.  Anyways, enjoy the article.

See ya next next time with some more search industry news. Have you checked out our search engine or maybe even an Insurance Website. I finished earlier today and gave it the style of the Utah State Flag.  Creative huh?

Posts on Days

So I have been working with this State Farm agent. I am pretty sure i did his site this week. but for the style of the site I went with the usual state farm colors which are red and white. So I made the header with the guys picture in it and made a red border and then embossed it. I added the car to the header because i saw an add on the original site saying “Turn Here”. So I thought a car turning would fit into the scheme. I added the double border because it sets off the actual page from the red background. Overall I think that the site looks good.

Making keywords even more relevant

We know that utilizing keywords is important in SEO’ing your site to increase your rankings. But you can utilize your keywords even more effectively by turning those keywords into links within your site. If you use your keywords as the names of your pages and link your keywords to that content, search engines rank those links as more relevant, increasing your position in search engine results. An example is the following site for Frank Hennessey & Associates, Inc. http://fhaapprovedappraisersite.com/

links are very helpful

One of the fundamental driving forces behind a website’s ranking is the number of incoming links it has. If another webmaster links to your site, the search engines see that as a vote of confidence. If a lot of other webmasters link to your site, you get a higher link popularity, and thats where your ranking skyrockets and the real fun begins.

Of course, the other part of the formula is that the more incoming links that a site linking to you has, the more it will benefit your ranking.

The original theory behind this formula was the Pagerank system, developed by google.com in the late 1990’s. Google still uses an evolved version of this system, and many other other search engines, including MSN and Yahoo use similar formulas of their own.

Because of the popularity of this “more links = higher ranking” system among search engines, it is completely safe to say that when it comes to getting a better ranking, links really are power.
