Content Troubles

Every once and awhile, you’re going to be tossed a subject that you have absolutely no idea about. Whether that topic has to do with puppies or the one I was working on until about 10 minutes ago: factoring. Now I have absolutely no clue as to what that is but you gotta do what you gotta do. But just how do you write about something you don’t know? Obviously you have to research, but then you have to worry about copyright issues.

That’s where everyones good friend steps in called Wikipedia comes in to help you. The fact that wiki works under a free documentation license means that you can use it anywhere you want without the worry of having to site the place you got it from. As I am sure you know, everyone has the chance to be able to edit wiki since information is constantly changing and it would be far too much for any one business as wiki to even begin to start documenting the entirety of the worlds knowledge without…well, the world.

When Drawing Blanks

Sometimes content for particular sites is hard because keywords don’t fit as well as you would like them to. The best thing I could find to do in such situations is to try other tasks that you have to complete in the meantime. Nothing fancy. Heck, I’m writing this blog right now because I’m in this same situation. And this is far more productive than just sitting around waiting for a new development or epiphany that would hit me that I know just is not going come.

Writing into a blog, making header images for other sites, anything would be better than nothing. So, as if right on time, I’m blogging for the better hoping maybe some of this will be useful. Though one would imagine it would be common sense, sometimes you just want to finish a site too much when your mind just is not there for it.

Are Images good or bad for SEO?

This depends on how it is used and tagged. If the whole site is one big image then this will hurt your site badly. Yes images look nice but search engines don’t care about how a site looks, it cares about how the source code looks. For example if you look at www.passporttowealth.com and many other multi level marketing sites they look really nice but there are mainly images. Having almost no images and a lot of content is great for SEO purposes but back for the consumer because they don’t want to only see words. A balance must be made between the two.

luckily there is a small way to fix this problem. All that is needed is to add title and alt tags to the images. The search engines will see this and it will help out your rankings and the consumer won’t see it. However this is not a fix-all for this problem. A site that is just images, titles, and alt tags still will not have great results. Content, and I can’t stress it enough, content is one of the most important things needed for SEO.

planning and research

The key to a good Search Engine Optimized site or in other words “SEO Site” is planning and research. What is your site going to be about and what kind of audiences do you want to attract. Is the site informational only or do you want to sell products or services. After you decide what kind of internet site and information, next you have to decide what kind of keyword and phrases you want to include. This is done by doing your research.

What kind of keywords and phrases are your targeted audiences using. After you figure that out. This can be done by using several tools on the internet. Yahoo.com has a good keyword generator that you can use. Also http://usaseopros.com has a very good keyword suggestion tool that you can use and is less confusing.

By now you should know that it is important to include a lot of keyword phrases. This is made possible by knowing first what you are talking about and knowing how to explain it. For example if your site is about a day spa. Make sure that you do the research and provide good examples of a day spa. If the spa provides a service called Bikini wax for example, do your research about it and then write about it. Know exactly what it consists of. More than likely, if you do your research correctly, you would come up with enough terms and key word phrases for your content. This should be enough for a good planned out SEO site to be found by many search engines.

Next article will be about Submissions to Search Engines.

Ranks for websites that have been optimized

The way rankings work for website optimization is simple…KEYWORD PENETRATION! The more of an abundance of keywords that you have, in the homepage content especially, is what will in fact get your ranks. The way a search engine works, is that it looks at a few defining points, such as homepage content, title, URL, and description. If a site has 20 keywords, and one or two of the keywords is on the homepage, then it will get low ranks because the search engine is going to look for something that has more relevant content. But the more keyword rich the homepage is, the closer to the first page it will be (that is not saying have your homepage be only keywords). But have rich keyword penetration will give you better ranks.
